Our practice is committed to providing you and your family with safe, gentle, high-quality dental care. We understand that your child may feel anxious about visiting the dentist. We are sensitive to children's needs and it is our goal to make your child feel comfortable visiting our practice while providing the best care possible.
Your first visit is all about your child – his or her comfort, happiness, and health.
In accordance with the published guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, your child’s first dental visit should occur by 12 months of age. This enables the dentist to evaluate potential problems related to your child’s oral health, as well as to introduce you and your child to proper oral hygiene and diet. With 10% of children having dental decay by two years of age and 40% by age four, it makes great sense to begin early and regular dental visits by the first birthday.
The first dental appointment should be a very fun and enjoyable visit. Each child is unique and we will tailor the visit to meet the needs and ability of the child. During your child's first visit, we will review his or her dental and medical history, and discuss with you any concerns you may have. Every child will receive an exam and orthodontic screening by the doctor, and only the necessary x-rays will be taken.
Our dedicated team will work with your child to complete an appropriate cleaning and fluoride treatment. We will then determine your child’s immediate and long-term dental needs, discuss our findings, answer questions, and make treatment recommendations. Oral hygiene instructions will be reviewed, and topics such as diet, fluoride, and thumb sucking/pacifier habits will be discussed. Our goal is to educate and motivate you and your child to develop a lifetime of healthy dental habits.
